This hits hard. I don't feel very good when someone outdoes me in something I take pride in, and it's always without malicious intent so I feel even worse for feeling bad. It's just something I pretend doesn't happen in the hopes that one day I'll be confident in my own skills.

This is an interesting anime. I started watching it because it kind of reminded me of Kyokou Suiri and so far I'm liking it.

I started watching Cherry Magic on a whim and I wasn't really expecting much, but wow it completely blew me away! It didn't suffer from a lot of the frustrating romance clichés and I actually think I like this subgenre of romance.

I can't really think of any other shows that are similar. Maybe "Netjuu no Susume" is similar but nothing else comes to mind.

I've added the manga to my library since it seems like it's still ongoing. It's possible that they intentionally scripted the anime to have a nice ending without loose ends since it's unlikely to get a season 2, but I actually like that. The anime is a nice self-contained story that I think anyone who likes romance shows can enjoy.

Also when I was picking a screenshot, I came to my senses and realised that the one I originally picked was a huge spoiler lol. Good thing I realised before posting.

It's a bit different from the source material but honestly I actually like that Alicia's character got a glow up. "Game force" feels a bit like a cop out but based on the events of volume 3, I have a theory.

I'm not sure how likely a season 2 is but there are a lot of scenes that I really want to see animated.

I haven't yet gotten around to reading volume 4, and I might give the manga a try if it's following the new plot with Alicia.

Also that moment between Yumiella and Patrick was soo cute ❤️

I doubt that the reasoning for Alicia losing control is going to just be "because game system" because that would be way too lazy. I wouldn't say that the series is all that detailed but that would be way too stupid. It's very likely that the god of evil is to blame for Alicia losing control. I suppose we just have to wait and see. I'm excited!

The voice acting at the end there really sent me lol.

Depending on how they handle the changes to the new plot, the "game plot" control might be addressed later in the story. If the manga is following these changes, we might actually get to see it even if we never get a season 2. At the very least, I don't think the demon lord cursing Alicia would be very in character for him and would probably invalidate a lot of his characterization.

I've read up to volume 3 and I'm going to start reading volume 4 soon when I actually find time. This has been a blast honestly and I'm also really happy that there were enough people who enjoyed the series that I could have these discussion threads here!

I agree that there should have been more foreshadowing about the game plot driving force but apart from that I actually like the changes to Alicia's character. When I read the LN I really felt like it was a bit absurd that Alicia would act on her fear of Yumiella and that ended up making me feel like she was ultimately an uninteresting character.

As for the foil, I think Patrick fills that role pretty well imo, and the contrast only gets funnier as the story progresses.

This episode perfectly encapsulates what Mashle is all about. I loved the manga chapter and finally getting to see this scene animated gave me shivers!

So we get a clear answer to Ayanokoji's motives. Considering how this feels like an inflection point in the story, and with Horikita's arc being essentially complete imo, it feels like it's time to address the elephant in the room: Ayanokoji is broken af.

I'm probably going to start reading the source material once the anime is done airing. I can't wait to see what's going to happen.

I have complicated feelings about this show. I really do like it, but there are several aspects of it that I really dislike, or that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. It's not bad enough to ruin the entire show in my opinion, but it's still always at the back of my mind when I watch the show.

And once again this show blows me away with its stellar writing! My heart feels full.

The drama wasn't dragged out for too long and still felt extremely real. I like how in a way, it also shows that you're never too old for new experiences.

Tsuge and Minato are officially together! You see the wonders of communication.

The scene at the end was also very tasteful 👌

This is a great analysis! I paused and tried to analyse the game myself but I'm not very good at chess. I got about as far as the queen trade and figured "yeah materiel advantage" and just continued. This is much more detailed!

I'm just as invested in the Tsuge and Minato plotline as I am in the Adachi and Kurosawa one. The balance is really nice.

They should appreciate Yumiella's methods more. It's extremely effective and safer than it looks.

Minor LN spoiler below this point

I wasn't entirely sure if what Alicia did to Yumiella at the Demon Lord's boss fight was because of the game compulsion or because that's just who she is. I joke about Alicia being stupid but in reality I think she just ignored her own potential, and she isn't really all that different from the average character from this kingdom. I guess it makes sense in a way.

The best outcome would be setting a precedent that allows FOSS organisations to send threatening letters to companies that violate the license. An individual dev maintaining a small library may theoretically be able to win a lawsuit, but practically? lmao good luck

I think this could even be related to the idea of post-open source that Bruce Perens talked about. An organisation which helps its members handle the business-y parts of running large community projects. They could handle funding, legal representation, marketing and any other support that members may want. A large number of members would make it that much more effective as well.

It’s almost funny. Honestly, the only way I can see them regaining any trust at all is by a complete change in leadership and increased transparency and accountability.

I haven’t calculated how much the new revenue split would be on average so take this as a random scribble on a napkin, but I wouldn’t be surprised if most studios choose to never upgrade to the next version.

Just remember, the current CEO was too greedy even for EA.
