Just wanted to write that. If 1 billion is unimaginable to us regular people, a thousand more of these is something completely unreal.

Congratulations. My experience is pretty close to yours. Besides some software and shortcuts I miss from windows, it just works, and in these little moments I need help, there probably a dozen of threads with suggested solutions.

Be aware of Time Shift though. A part of new users report it taking all free space on the drive and crippling system, if used on ext3-4 file system + saving back ups to the system drive + having things like flatpack or TS's own folders not excluded. It happened to me and a lot of others, as I've encountered this question multiple times on the web, so keep an eye on it. You can actually open any save point as a folder from TS's interface and see if it saves what it shouldn't.

After announcing increased prices, Spotify to Pay Songwriters About $150 Million Less Next Year ( www.billboard.com )

When Bloomberg reported that Spotify would be upping the cost of its premium subscription from $9.99 to $10.99, and including 15 hours of audiobooks per month in the U.S., the change sounded like a win for songwriters and publishers. Higher subscription prices typically equate to a bump in U.S. mechanical royalties — but not...

Picking any side there is political and they've choosen the participation of one over a little sign of another.

You shouldn't be able to join a competitive pvp match or start a raid without a working microphone

In games like Destiny or CS:GO for example, you should not even be allowed to start the activity without a working microphone. I dont care if you are antisocial, if that's the case, those activaties aren't for you and you shouldn't bring down your entire team because of that....

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

So you mean team and cooperative FPSs and MMORPGs. This needs to be said. There's a whole layer of games that have competitive regimes with 1-player 'teams' or even based around that with a little-to-no ability to get a benefit from talking. Fightings, racings, strategies, shooters with a deathmatch, chess lol. Without specifying it this opinion is just incorrect.

It's not that unpopular when you get into higher ranks where you take on a challenge with a long-going group of players. In the lower ranks with randoms it's probably harder to find a game where everyone's connected, and also more agression and toxicity found in the chat. I liked playing support\tank roles in low level Overwatch (and DD had long queues anyway) without communication specifically because I had a joy of reading other people and the stakes were pretty low, but risking something more is weird.

Circular selection, fill?

Isn't that how you do that in Photoshop?

For a certified maniac there's also one bump of a brush with 100% hardness and using gradient tool, radial, with no actual gradations.

And if you are feeling like killing a school bus of puppies, you can put a coin or a mug to the screen with one hand while drawing around it with the other, using a live mouse, biting you, as you move it and hallucinate the formation of the ideal circular form.

I hated him, but that's just a metric of how good acting and writing there was. This cartoon has a certain flavor to it, like an old doom metal record found in the garage probably. And authors did a lot more than I expected from these series, with all these quotes and references, and it feels somehow fitting with the cheap style of 90s cartoon, it kinda adds to the feeling of a lost media treasure no one but you knows of. Thanks for reminding me about it. And for that I'm to share my beloved quote by Goliath: 'As long as we are together, there's our home', that, albeit simple, stroke me with a thought of home being not just a place, or not a place at all, but your treasured people (or, well, gargoyles) making home wherever they are, that rings very right with me at that time when I hate my current surroundings and gravitate towards those who understand me. That's kinda telling about it's quality if people can recall the quotes from an old show by memory. It feels like I need to rewatch it once again. Thanks.

We became afraid of being sentimental or wrong because modern internet does encourage that. I thank Lemmy for sometimes I feel like I can tell something there wihtout trying to win over someone, to be right and get upvotes. I recently replied supportively to a person I've taken a fight with a week ago, and that seems organic to what we people do over time. It's just a simple message from me, nothing to write home about, really, but I'd like for web to become less edgy and more diverse and accepting. That's the way to encourage more people to open up.

andrew_bidlaw ,

They should've acted like the Cold War never ended because the other side uses the same old playbook, ruled by the people coming from the executive branch: spies, cops, state security, who just can't think differently, and even in early two thousands acted like that, but not with the confidence they've got since that. Europe can't just throw Ukraine under the carpet like they are talking with a rational entity to save relations or whatever. If they wouldn't learn from that, wouldn't act on that, that'd define the survival of these alliances, because no one would ever feel secure in them.

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Maybe a little excessive for just drone operation and communications, but the formfactor of a handheld console is where the sweet spot is. I feel like if they'd make them for $100 with something akin to a 10-years old hardware in a rugged everything-proof body, it can become a standard in the future. Cheap drones have shown they can drop bombs alright, so there's probably a market for a cheap controller made just for that.

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Their R&D in designing a console and these nice controllers is probably more expensive for Valve than what they've got from selling actual products, but cheap smartphone is $40 in the more sanctioned Russia, so I guess something like $100 isn't an unreasonable price goal, and these folks are historically more into IT than we are, that makes me believe they can do or already did cheap controlling devices. I'm open to be wrong.

And yeah, military things are always extra durable and extra overpriced, but they are in a process to cut corruption to join NATO\EU, so probably the end price won't be that exhausting.

Instances can enable or disable the email verification and other measures, like asking why you want to join that instance.

I don't recall reddit being so liberal. I haven't used an account I didn't verified in the same day, so I can't say if it works, but I suspect they can enable different protocols for inspecting unverified accs.

As a side-note to that discussion: my VPN works with most services i can't access otherwise while reddit blocked me as I tried to access it to see for myself. I'm surprised.

I'm still having troubles to understand why'd they even want Windows 11 to happen and I'd really like some more informed people to help me out.

They had massive mergers as an unpredicted expense. I also don't know many people who bought the last XBOX unlike previous gens or ever used MS Store. Is that sweet lobbying money from hardware producers? I thought they planned Windows X as the peak Windows platform to then sell internal products (game-as-a-service but OS), so did this plan failed?

Windows 11 looks like an afterthought and the centered taskbar may be intentionally put there to make it look different from Win10 while it's probably the least changed new release as I learnt after a brief encounter with it (after XP, I don't know much about earlier OSes).

Had they just run out of money?

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

I'd probably say a blasphemy, but ordinary workers only experience problems for their old HDDs\systems are overstuffed and are far from their prime, so they ask for entire new PC to start fresh. New Seven x64 on SSD is what most people would'be okay with*, since it's compatible with new Office document formats, doesn't need much resources or space, and can still do everything except for niche tasks. It's not as morbid as Vista\8, not yet filled with bloat like 10 or 11, not as limited today as XPx32 with older driver delivery model. I don't know much about security stuff, but I feel like older systems falling from popularity are not the usual targets of people who write them, and encountering one using an outdated OS would probably mean nothing since exploits they want to abuse aren't there yet.

* Linux would probably be better, but that's still a hard sell for businesses that don't use it intentionally.

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Probably, if they aren't that obscure. I don't know if a distance is that long between Windows 11 and Seven, but I suppose it's that big for older systems.
