Are you for real? That’s his hip hop name, and he’s a tastemaker in his circles. He actually tried to help Kamala Harris out with her butchered interview on his show 4 years ago, and softened the blow of the audience reaction.

Charlamagne isn’t an enemy of Biden, and he came up with his stage name as a young guy in the streets who was learning about Charlemagne in night school. It was created at a time that he was aspiring for more and had no success under his belt. Making fun of him for it is kind of messed up in my opinion. His name is iconic in hip hop.

And he was pretty forgiving about that comment too—if dems think Charlamagne is to blame for those two awful interviews, then they clearly didn’t watch them. He did what he could to minimize the damage they did to themselves. If anything, him keeping his distance this time is just sparing them the rope they might hang themselves with again.

Did you read the article? He said he knows “who he will vote for to preserve democracy” (Biden). It isn’t unpatriotic or foolish to criticize both sides for what you legitimately see.

Honestly, I’ve found some of the dismissal and rage in this thread disturbing. Charlamagne is nowhere near an enemy of Biden, and he was just answering questions that some people around him have been asking.

Setting the precedent that anything less than full throated support of Biden is unacceptable is a slippery slope—Trump supporters want exactly that for their side too. Let people speak their mind, and listen if you want to.

This is bad. Seed the original. People want to download what they’re expecting, and BitTorrent has tools to ban peers for sending bad data that is modified from the original.

In my experience, metaphysics is more like being in a dark room that you are certain is empty, feeling a black cat run across your leg once, and then spending a lifetime trying to make it happen again.

Came here to say the same—a crack pipe is usually straight and open on both ends with a metal filter of iron wool in it, often of “Chore Boy” brand…or so I’ve heard.

The Resistance has always been there. They rally around different things over the years, but the basic personalities remain the same. Allies of freedom will always exist and find each other.

I’m gonna need Rowan Atkinson to weigh in on this.

That’s sort of the point of the metaphor I think—Oedipus was driven to do it by fate even though the conscious awareness of it horrified him.

How did nobody discover this sooner if it is a common network option? This seems like it should have been well known to professionals. Who dropped the ball?

What happens to those who are severely disabled while in prison?

For some reason began going down a rabbit hole thinking about this. Let's say you are blind, and reliant on a guide dog, but end up in prison for a non-violent crime like possession of illegal drugs. Are you allowed to keep the dog? No, right? But if you are entirely reliant on the guide dog to perform daily tasks, how do you...

Counter intuitively, jail can sometimes be worse conditions. People in there are often detoxing, in the middle of a mental health crisis, or simply haven’t accepted or adapted to their condition yet. That can make jail a more volatile place than prison, since people in prison are more likely to be aware that this is their life now and they had best find some sort of equilibrium.

Really? I’ve never seen an intentionally shallow lake edge before. More often, I’ve seen restaurants on docks that hang out over even deeper water.

@WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Do you have a friend who knows how to swim? It isn’t difficult to teach someone the basics of swimming for survival—floating, kicking, and a basic stroke to get to the edge. I know I’d be willing to teach any friend who didn’t know how for free, and I imagine a lot of other swim capable people would feel the same since it is such a safety issue.

WeirdGoesPro ,
@WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I hope you can find a way to learn that works for you. No need to leave the shallow end—even if you only learn to float, then you’ve learned to survive. Good luck! You’ll get this!

The universe kinda becomes like a god.

If anything is going to be qualified as a god, the literal embodiment of everything, everywhere, all at once seems to fit the bill. Call it what you want—the universe is our everything as far as we know it, and that has traditionally been an interpretation of what god is as well.

Protecting people from feeling offended, not bodily harm. His entire point is that it is a slippery slope trying to police speech when people can be offended by anything. The right to criticize, satirize, and otherwise commentate on ideas is a fundamental part of free speech, and that is all he was trying to defend.

People looking for a scandal here need to go touch some grass for a while.

do not criminalize individuals selling to other individuals, but if it’s stores then I completely agree.

What do you think a store is, exactly?

WeirdGoesPro ,
@WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I’m a dem voter and non-smoker, but this issue was pushing me away. I also felt that this law disproportionally targeted black people, and I’m glad that it isn’t going anywhere.

So I guess he wasn’t completely out of touch.

WeirdGoesPro ,
@WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

He’s letting them make adult choices like everybody else about their health.

People don’t need to be saved from themselves, and it is extremely condescending to act like the black population has been bamboozled by menthol cigarettes any more or less than any other smoker.

WeirdGoesPro ,
@WeirdGoesPro@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It depends on the size of the store, but that isn’t necessarily true. A lot of convenience stores are franchises, and you definitely could talk to the owner.

My point isn’t really to define what a store is, but rather to point out that it is really tricky to place blame appropriately when you are banning a substance that people want to buy. How far down the chain do you prosecute?

Much better to simply teach people the truth about their health and let them make their own decisions rather than try to control and blame, in my opinion.
